One reason to recycle:

Let me introduce you to Steven Moore. He spent 7 years as a Registered Sanitarian (note to self: interesting job title!) in the state of Ohio. He is outraged at the open dumping occuring along the Great Miami River in Ohio. This picture tells the story.

When I drive through parts of the Puget Sound (Seattle area), I see similar trash piles. It’s simply bewildering to me as to how and why people do this.

Making transfer stations free doesn’t work, since it would probably increase the amount of garbage. Imposing fines doesn’t work (or maybe setting up video surveillances, with the person caught having to pay for all the time/equipment?). Education doesn’t seem to work. It’s frustrating and it’s happening all over the world.
