my watershed group has pulled over 600 tires from sensitive areas along and in our local river. They are a scourge from past and present dumping. There is no "away" except through recycling, and reuse. I'd love to see more artisan use of tires. especially the thrash can!!

[...] Have a spare tire hangin’ around? Hollowtop.com will show you in several easy steps how to get some use of it and turn it into a col pair of sandals! Templates are even included. From the post, “The field tests of our sandals were quite exciting. The tire sandal and moccasin combination meant we had “modular” shoes. We wore both the moccasins and the soles when hiking, and then just one or the other around camp. We could use just the moccasins for stalking, or just the tires for walking in water. We climbed 10,000 foot peaks twice and generally just put on the miles. I did not wear socks, and never washed my moccasins, but my feet were in healthy condition for the duration of the trip– a first for me.” Beats throwing away money on a new pair of Tevas. Has anyone ever tried this tire/moccasin combination?
